Professional 400× HD Inspection. Zero Software Lock-In. Unmatched Value.
“Inspect every fiber patchcord before connection—the most critical inspection in your workflow, Get professional 400× magnification in your pocket and view the image on any device—no extra apps, no extra charges. Easy to focus, just plug in and see the difference.”
OmniLens™ (OL) Series UVC fiber end face inspection microscope digitally views the end face of a fiber optic connector for dirt, scratches, and other defects. These devices connect to a computer or mobile device via USB, magnify the end face, and display the image for analysis. This process is critical to prevent network performance degradation and physical damage. Dirty patchcords contaminate clean bulkhead adapters through contact.
Catch Dust Migration Before It Happens: Dust resting harmlessly on the cladding today will migrate to the core after a few insertions. The OL Series lets you catch and clean rogue particles before they ruin a link.
Spot "Coffee Cup Stains" & Finger Oils: Instantly detect the circular residue rings left behind by improperly dried isopropyl alcohol, or the devastating streaks caused by accidental finger contact.
Identify Permanent Damage: Quickly evaluate if a connector is suffering from deep physical scratches or leftover connectorization epoxy that cannot be cleaned away.
Pre-Connection Inspection Standard: Industry best practice requires inspecting both ends of every patchcord before insertion into bulkhead adapters. This means each patchcord gets inspected 2× per connection event. Data Center MACs: In dynamic data center environments with frequent moves/adds/changes, patchcords may be inspected multiple times daily
Hyperscale data centers and service providers powering AI and machine learning applications face unprecedented fiber connectivity demands. Managing signal integrity across tens of thousands of fiber connectors requires rigorous contamination control—where even microscopic contamination becomes a critical liability—degrading performance, multiplying operational costs, and jeopardizing deployment timelines.
While industry leaders offer highly automated inspection systems, they often come with steep price tags, bulky battery requirements, and restrictive proprietary software ecosystems. The Skycable OL-Series is different. Designed for agility and cost-effectiveness, it delivers the core optical performance of premium benchtop equipment but in a rugged, plug-and-play USB form factor with an unbeatable MSRP of just $600.
Key Competitive Advantages
100% Eye-Safe Video Inspection: Unlike low-cost direct-view microscopes that can permanently damage your eyes if accidentally plugged into an active fiber, the OL-Series is a digital video scope. It completely isolates your eyes from harmful lasers, displaying the feed safely on your screen.
Universal Compatibility: Works with any third-party USB camera software across all major platforms without proprietary software lock-in
True Plug-and-Play: UVC1.1 compliance means instant recognition by operating systems
Easy to Focus: Wide focal range, does not require additional effort to adjust manual focus dial
Cost-Effectiveness: Significantly lower price point than professional alternatives while maintaining 400X magnification - MSRP USD600 - No other USB-powered end-face inspector at this price point offers true 400× optical zoom. This level of detail ensures that even the smallest scratches and particulates on fiber ferrules are clearly visible.
Manual Control: Physical buttons for image freeze and capture provide tactile feedback
High Frame Rate: 60fps live viewing enables smooth real-time inspection
No internal Battery Required: USB-powered eliminates battery charging and replacement concerns, always ready for all-day field testing
How it works
Connection: A USB fiber inspection scope, also called a scope or microscope, connects to a computer or mobile device using a USB cable or wireless connection.
Magnification: The device magnifies the connector's end face at 400X magnification, depending on the model.
Illumination: Built-in illumination helps to provide a clear view of the end face.
Image Capture: The magnified image is displayed on a connected screen, allowing technicians to visually inspect for contaminants and physical damage.
Why it's important
Performance: Contaminants, even small ones, can cause high insertion loss and reflectance, severely impacting network performance.
Durability: Physical defects like scratches can be exacerbated by mating the connector, potentially causing permanent damage.
Quality Assurance: Inspection before and after mating ensures the integrity of the connection, especially in critical applications like high-speed optical networks.
